The Vocab Masters Approach

Each week, your child receives 12 beautifully designed flashcards. Every flashcard includes:

• A child-friendly definition
• A memorable picture to reinforce understanding
• A clear example sentence
• Synonyms and antonyms to make connections between words

Words have been carefully selected for variety and challenge, ensuring a broad and balanced vocabulary.

Research shows that visual aids significantly enhance vocabulary retention and motivation (Dahki, 2018; Khafidhoh, 2019; Bates & Son, 2020). By linking words to images, your child will create mental connections that make learning easier and more enjoyable.

Your child won’t just learn definitions - they’ll master vocabulary through a range of focused worksheets each week.

For each new set of 12 words, they’ll complete:

• Two worksheets practising that week’s vocabulary
• Activities such as matching definitions, synonyms and antonyms
• Cloze (gap-fill) sentences to reinforce usage in context
• Picture-matching activities to support visual learners

These activities help children connect words to meaning and usage in a variety of ways, encouraging deeper understanding and long-term retention.

In addition to the weekly practice worksheets, your child will also complete two dedicated revision worksheets each week:

• One revisiting words from the previous week
• One revising words from four weeks ago

To make sure children don’t forget the words they’ve previously learnt, the vocabulary lists are carefully designed to build on each other, helping them make connections and deepen understanding.

This structure is based on research into the optimal spacing for revisiting information (Cepeda et al., 2008), which shows that revising at both short and longer intervals leads to significantly better retention.

As a result, children who complete this course demonstrate very high long-term recall of the vocabulary they’ve learned.
